I’d like to thank Kerryanne for this opportunity to showcase my painted mason jars here. Thousands upon thousands of miles away from my home in Chicago … And since visiting Australia is on my bucket list, I wonder if this guest post counts? Though, I don’t want to check it off … I’d much prefer a real visit!
While I’m not exactly new to the blogging world (my it all started with paint blog launched in October 2011), I am new to this whole mason jar mania thing. In fact, I’m not just new to it, I’m contributing to it … Fanning the flames, if you will! And, not surprisingly, my whole mason jar obsession started with paint! Painted mason jars, to be more precise. I crossed paths with some on a Google image search and decided to try my hand at some using craft paint I had lying around …
Not too shabby, right? Or, more accurately, perfectly shabby … All I know is that I fell hard for mason jars. Hook, line and sinker … I started stocking them in my Etsy shop (sorry, I’m not selling in Australia yet; did you know it would cost close to $30 to ship them over on a slow boat?) And they started selling. Like hot cakes. So I added more stock. Like these perfectly shabbilicious ones featuring Annie Sloan Chalk Paint …
And, of course, the ombre collection. In pretty in pink …
… and beachy blue.
Now, I get a lot of questions about how I painted these jars. And I have to be honest, it’s not that hard. You can find a full, detailed tutorial complete with pictures on my Mason Jar Crafts blog here. The two biggest tips I can offer are …
(1) Make sure you start with super clean jars. Wipe with rubbing alcohol and wash with hot soapy water first and;
(2) Exercise patience. Don’t try to distress too soon, or you’ll be peeling the paint off in strips. Give them a good 24 hours to “cure” before attacking with sandpaper and emery boards.

Thanks, Kerryanne, for this amazing opportunity!
Let’s hope your move moves smoothly …
